About me

Matthias Würtenberger – a mediator with a passion

because understanding between people matters enormously to me. I am convinced that everyone wants to be understood – yet that is often incredibly hard to achieve, especially, but not only, in situations of struggle and conflict. In my mediations, I therefore try my best to understand where each of you is coming from. More importantly, my central task is to make it possible for each of you to feel understood by the other – which is not the same as agreeing. People find it much easier to understand the other side once they feel understood themselves.

I indirectly pursued this drive for more than eight years in the area of international development cooperation and peace work, in various roles as an organisational adviser, teacher and manager. During my school and university years, I worked in hospitality for about ten years.

Living and working in the Middle East, East Africa, Japan and the United Kingdom has shaped my outlook on life and kept me curious about discovering things I don’t know. I developed an analytical mind through my studies in philosophy (B.A.) and Logic & Philosophy of Science (M.A.). I work with clients in both English and German.

Matthias Würtenberger

Certified mediator

Child specialist

I am a trained child specialist (Fachkraft für das Kind) for conducting a so-called child interview in CLP (Collaborative Law and Practice) and mediation proceedings. The child interview brings the voices of children into consensual proceedings during separation or divorce: the questions, thoughts and desires children have in a conflict setting are captured authentically and passed on to the parents.

Intensive mediation

Some conflicts are best worked on in a concentrated format – full-day sessions or a weekend mediation. I offer such intensive formats to family businesses and organisations across Germany.

For families, I offer intensive formats on request in the greater Venice and London areas, where I have family ties and have spent a lot of time. Whether an intensive format suits your situation is something we clarify in a free initial consultation.

Federal association

I am a member and board member of the Bundes-Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Familien-Mediation e.V. (BAFM), the German federal association for family mediation. I engage at a political level with federal stakeholders to make family mediation more visible and accessible in society.

Community mediation (SteG), City of Munich

I am part of the mediator pool of the Stelle für Gemeinwesenmediation (SteG) of the City of Munich (Social Services Department, Office for Housing and Migration). We mediate in conflicts between neighbours, in day-care centres, and in volunteer as well as community projects.

School mediation

Since 2023, I have been active as a school mediator at Munich’s largest lower secondary school, the Mittelschule Neuaubing in Wiesentfelserstraße. We support pupils, parents and teachers in resolving conflicts.

Munich Family Court

As a member of the family mediation working group of the Münchner Mediationszentrale (MZM), I am involved in the pilot project GeFaM – court-referred family mediation in Munich. In cooperation with the Munich Family Court (Amtsgericht, Pacellistr. 5), mediation is offered in pending family law cases (divorce, custody, etc.) as an out-of-court option for resolving conflicts through consensus.

Training

I trained as a mediator with Alexandra Frntic and Dr. Monika Hartges at the Eidos 2.0 Institut für Mediation. I am a certified mediator (zertifizierter Mediator) under Section 5(2) of the German Mediation Act (MediationsG).
